EVENTS:

1st International Conference on the Protection of the Euro against Counterfeiting

We are pleased to announce the 1st International Conference on the Protection of the Euro against Counterfeiting which is held in The Hague, The Netherlands, from 14th – 16th May 2007.

Europol, as the European Union Central Office for combating Euro counterfeiting and as the Centre of Excellence for the
prevention and suppression of Euro counterfeiting, is organizing the conference jointly with the European Central Bank.
   Participation in this conference will be restricted to law enforcement institutions and central banks. The objective of the conference will be to address topical counterfeiting issues of relevance to participants with a view to stimulating discussion on issues aimed at protecting the Euro against counterfeiting.

2007 International Equipment Exhibition & Technical Seminar of Forensic Science, Narcotics Control and Counter Terrorism

As approved by the Ministry of Public Security ('MPS') and Ministry of Science and Technology of the P.R. China, the 2007 International Equipment Exhibition & Technical Seminar of Forensic Science, Narcotics Control and Counter-Terrorism('2007 IEEFNC') will be held in the Military Museum in Beijing from June 6 to 8, 2007.The Exhibition is organized by the Institute of Forensic Science of MPS and the Forensic Science Association of China; and sponsored by the Equipment & Financial Bureau, the Criminal Investigation Bureau, the Narcotics Control Bureau, the Counter-Terrorism Bureau, and the Science Technology Bureau of MPS. read more...

  • Very soon all Russian banknotes and coins will be imprinted a new symbol on – the sign of the Russian ruble. Russian working team charged of introduction of a new sign has selected 5-7 variants out of over 100, the final result we will see before the end of the year. read more..
  • Saudi Arabia is to issue new riyal notes with the latest security features, which will increase confidence in the currency. The Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) will soon receive the first consignment of the new notes, the fifth issue of the Saudi currency. read more..

  • Old NT$500 and old NT$1,000 banknotes lacking holographic foil membrane will be pulled from circulation Aug. 1, a spokesman of the Central Bank said yesterday. The spokesman reminded people to exchange old NT$500 and old NT$1,000 banknotes for new ones at financial institutes before July 31. After that date, the Bank of Taiwan will be the only financial institute where people will be able to exchange old notes. read more.. 

  • The Bank of Korea plans to issue 100,000 won and 50,000 won bills in the first half of 2009. Currently, 10,000 won is the highest denomination of the country's currency in circulation, followed by 5,000 won and 1,000 won

  • U.S. currency will be soon modified by notching the corners of paper money so its readable by the blind and visually impaired. All Americans should be able to recognize the denominations of paper currency. But current bills are identical in size, which prevents millions of blind and visually impaired people from fully participating in U.S. economy.

  • German passport application offices start testing of 2nd generation e-passports including fingerprints. In a pilot project started this week 20 passport application offices in Germany are testing the new e-passports including a digital image of the applicant's fingerprint. The pilot will end June 30th while the new passports will be issued from November this year. read more... (in German)
     

  • Hong Kong citizens can apply for e-passports and e-visas. The government of Hong Kong SAR has announced that citizens can now apply for new electronic passports and visas. The processing of an application will take 10 days for the new documents. read more...
