In the year 2009 a total of 860,000 counterfeit euro banknotes were withdrawn from circulation. Compared to the year 2008, when a total of 666,000 counterfeits were withdrawn, it's nearly 30% increase in number of counterfeits. In the year 2009 the €20 banknote was the most counterfeited denomination (47% of all counterfeits), followed by the €50 banknote (39% of all counterfeits) and €100 (11% of all counterfeits). These 3 denominations together accounted for 97% of all EURO counterfeits. read more...
