Iranian president hopes to denominate currency "Denomination in Iran will begin after the subsidies project," the president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said. "The zeros will be removed from banknotes." Annual information on euro banknote counterfeiting In the year 2009 a total of 860,000 counterfeit euro banknotes were withdrawn from circulation. Compared to the year 2008, when a total of 666,000 counterfeits were withdrawn, it's nearly 30% increase in number of counterfeits. In the year 2009 the €20 banknote was the most counterfeited denomination (47% of all counterfeits), followed by the €50 banknote (39% of all counterfeits) and €100 (11% of all counterfeits). These 3 denominations together accounted for 97% of all EURO counterfeits. read more... |

Brazil unveils new banknotes On February 3, 2010, the Central Bank of Brazil announced a new series of the real banknotes. The R$50 and R$100 banknotes should start circulate from April 2010 and the others will be gradually implemented till 2012, coexisting with the older ones. The new design will add security enhancements to avoid counterfeiting and different sizes according to their values to help vision-impaired people. read more... |

New Passports for Croatians Starting with January 18th, all police stations in Croatia started issuing biometric passports. Johannesburg: 5,000 fake passports seized
South African authorities have confiscated over 5,000 fraudulently-acquired passports from Zimbabweans, sources revealed this week. Albania Issues New IDs, Biometric Passports Albanians rushed to apply for new identity cards and biometric passports, a key requirement for future visa-free travel to the EU. Government workers must apply by February 25, or they won’t be able to draw their wages. Pensioners have until March 25 to put in their applications, while students will not be allowed to sit their final exams this year if they haven't applied for the new identity cards in the meantime. read more...

Stansted deploys biometric passport gates London Stansted Airport has begun use of its new facial recognition security gates, which use document scanning.
