Next Generation $100 - Audit Report
Office of Inspector General from Department of The Treasury have introduced an Audit Report concerning Oversight over Next Generation $100. The Report contains concerns that note production testing was not sufficient, and also that project management was lacking together with recommendation how to resolve the technical problems.

Zambia is cutting three zeros
Zambia`s government is trying to strengthen the local currency agains major convertible currencies by knocking out three zeros from the kwacha. Bank of Zambia will also introduce coins with lower value denomations. By this will also reduce costs often incurred in customizing standard accounting packages that are purchased by businesses.

Belarus - New Br200 thousand note in circulation soon
National Bank of Belarus will put new Br200 thousand note into circulation as the largest denomination in circulation in Belarus is a Br100 thousand banknote (which is a little more than $12 today). The new Br200 thousand note should be put into circulation at the end of the first quarter of 2012. The National Bank also introduced to government a proposal to withdraw Br10 and Br20 banknotes from circulation.

South Africa`s new banknotes
South African Reserve Bank announced that they are in the process of producing a new series of South African banknotes. The currency will have the same denomination, sizes and colours, except the front, which will carry a specially designed engraving of former President Nelson Mandela. By this producing of new series of banknotes, South Africa is preventing the counterfeiting.

Bangladesh - New 60 Taka denomination
Bangladesh Bank issued a commemorative note of Taka 60 denomination to celebrate 60th anniversary of the Language Movement. The note will be available as a numismatic product packaged in a folder for 200taka, as well as a circulating note at face value.

Oman - New 5 and 10 rial notes
The Central Bank of Oman has issued new upgraded Omani banknotes of the denominations RO 10 and RO 5 with additional security features. These new banknotes are in the circulation along the existing banknotes which shall continue to remain legal tender, and circulated side-by-side with these new notes.

Laos - New 100,000-kip notes
The Central Bank of Laos announced that it will issue new 100,000-kip (12 dollar) banknotes to encourage people in Laos, to use the national currency instead of US dollars or Thai baht, as the largest kip banknote at the moment is the 50,000-kip. New notes should stop traders hiking prices in the kip currency because of shortages of banknotes.

New Biometric Passport for St. Kitts and Nevis
From January 5th St. Kitts and Nevis started to issue new E-Passports, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Homeland Security, Labour nad Social Security announced. New passport has several improved security features to prevent fraud and identity theft. The Passport will be issued to those who are applying the document for the first time or to those who requires replacement.

Fiji - 40,000 new passports expected 
40,000 new Fiji passports are expected to arrive next month into the country. Department of Immigration Director, Major Nemani Vuniwaqa said his recent visit to Oberthur Technologies in France has allowed him to see firsthand the compiling process of passports whereby he is satisfied that all requirements set out by the Fiji Government are being fulfilled. He added that another 36,000 passports are expected in November and confirms at present there is slightly over 1,000 passport applications currently backlogged from August 2011.

It looks like new Biometric passports will be in use from June in Armenia as Office of Visas and Passports of Armenian Police announced. As the advantage of the biometric passport is providing more opportunities for identifying a person, as it contains person's biometric data, fingerprints, photo and signature.

Finland - biometric identity cards
Finland is from the 1 January 2012 issuing new biometric identity cards to replace the traditional Finnish residence permits. According to European Council regulations, all 27 European Union member states are required to introduce the electronic residence permit ("e-residence permit"). The new Identity card is a credit-card format and will serve as a foreign national`s "e-residence permit".

Pakistan - Passports with 10 year validity
The government in Pakistan will start issuing machine readable passports to its citizens for 10 years to reduce the difficulties of the Pakistanis living abroad. But the 5 years passports option will also be kept functional to facilitate those citizens who make short visits or business tours to other countries and also, passports for children will be issued for 5 years because their biological features change with the passage of time.

With cooperation of traffic police and auto drivers unions, the city corporation in Thiruvananthapuram has launched an "ID cards for auto drivers" scheme. Auto drivers have been requested to register their names for ID cards before January 31.

Ukraine - bill on biometric passports approved
A bill on the introduction of biometric passports for traveling abroad has been approved by The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. According to Ukrainian Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych, the document stipulates that foreign passports have to contain the citizen's photograph, signature and the prints of two fingers.
