New Paraguay banknote

On 12th May 2008, Banco Central del Paraguay has issued brand new design 50000 guaranies banknote featuring the portrait of Paraguay musician Agustín Barrios,"Mangoré" on the front side and guitar image on the back. New banknotes bear additional security feautures which complicate banknote counterfeiting. New design 50000 guaranies are supposed to supersed older series of the same denomination so they start to circulate alongside with current series, but older notes will be continualy withdrawn from circulation. ...read more (in Spanish)



New 20000 Riels banknote

On 14th May 2008, National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has issued new 20000 riels to commemorate birthday of The King Norodom Sohamoni. Bosnia to start issuing biometric passports in November 2008

The Bosnian Ministry of Civil Affairs is taking all necessary activities in order to start issuing biometric passports by November 1 as it was planned by the process for new passports issuing, stated the Bosnian Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs Senad Sepic. "We are slowed down in this process by unplanned commitment of adjusting different adopted laws on travel documents in both houses of Parliament but we shall do everything to start issuing passports on time”, stated Sepic. He added that these changes mean gradual introduction of biometric passports for all Bosnian citizens.Ther Bosnian citizens would have to change current passports with new biometric ones after the old ones expire. This is relieving factor for citizens since they do not have to spend additional money in case they already have a passport. ...read more



Switzerland parliament approved biometric passports

Parliament has approved the widespread introduction of biometric passports and identity cards for citizens from the middle of 2009. The passports – which have been in a trial phase since September 2006 – will include a chip that stores two fingerprints and the holder's facial image. Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf said that the cost of obtaining a biometric passport – currently SFr250 ($243) – would be lowered. Citizens not wanting to travel abroad may opt for a less expensive, non-biometric identification card. ...read more



Kosovo unveils new passport

Kosovo has unveiled the design for the country's new passport, almost a month after it declared independence from Serbia. It comes as Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci met the head of the 1,800 strong police and justice mission that is to be deployed in Kosovo. Prime Minister Thaci says it marks another significant step in Kosovo's nationhood. He says all Kosovo citizens living domestically and abroad are entitled to Kosovo state documents. It's a move that's sure to further upset Serbia. Prime Minister of Kosovo Hashim Thaci says Kosovo will cooperate with Serbia as two separate states, as two neighbouring countries. “We will invest so we can have a good relationship and cooperation with Serbia, but we need always to separate the state of Serbia with its citizens”. ...read more

New biometric passports widely introduced in France

New French passports embedded with biometric RFID technology are launched on a large scale, US security demands cited. French biometric passportNew passports in France will be issued with RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification), embedded chips carrying digital images of the bearer’s face and eight fingerprints. Children below the age of 6 will not be photographed digitally. The first of the new biometric passports will be available in autumn 2008, but it not be until June 2009 that this new identity document will be widely offered in 2,000 town halls, that is to say around 20 per French department or administrative district. Qatar issues new ePassports

The Nationality and Travel Documents department of Ministry of Interior held a press conference recently to introduce the new e-passport system to the media. Brig. Salih Khamis Al kubaisi, Director of IT Dept. in the MoI, Col.Abdullah Saa'd Al Buainain, Director of Nationality and Travel documents dept. and Major. Muhammad Majid Al Sulaiti were present in the press conference. "The issuance of new Qatari e-passport comes in the framework of Ministry of Interior's continuous effort to convoy with the latest technology for the issuance of passports and also as fruit of joint venture between IT and Nationality and Travel documents departments in the Ministry of Interior. The issuance of new Qatari e-passport has started since Sunday 20/4/2008. By this new initiative, the State of Qatar has become the first country that issues this kind of passports all over the GCC countries in particular and in Arab countries in general" Brig.
