Currency Conference in Singapore October 2-5, 2011 - South America
The Currency Conference which was for the first time held in 1992, is scheduled for 2-5 October 2011.
In 2010 it was for the first time held in South America, in 2011 is planned to be in Singapore´s city center.
Delegates from Central Banks and Bank Note Printing industry will be solving issues regarding development,
improvement and innovations in Currency Managment, Update on Note and Coin Boundaries, What´s New with the

Hong Kong´s new banknotes. The Hong Kong monetary Authority
announced that the new series of 1000 HK dollar banknotes will be put into circulation on the 7th of December.
Thereafter, in 2011 and 2012 denominations of 20, 50, 100 and 500 HK dollar will go into circulation. A number
of security features have been added to the new banknotes, including dynamic colour patterns. Together with the
new series, all other banknotes currently in circulation will continue to be legal tender.

Guatemala and its polymer banknote.
After the succesfull issue of 1-quetzal polymer banknote in 2006, Guatemala decided to issue 5-quetzal polymer
banknote in second half of 2011. One of the advantages which Guatemala admitted is, that polymer banknotes have
more durability and security.

UK banks will soon make £5 notes available from cash machines.
Five pound notes have become sought after in the last few years. Following a successful pilot exercise undertaken
by HSBC last year, major financial institutions and ATM operators are increasing the number of ATMs that dispense

Success of Czech police in seizuring forged banknotes.
Police forces in the Czech Republic have reported an increase in seized counterfeit bills this year, saying
the number of forged banknotes retrieved was up by seven percent compared to last year. The counterfeit notes
seized this year have ranged from US banknotes, to Euro banknotes, as well as Czech banknotes.

Bulgarian police break up euro note forgery ring.
Europol Director Rob Wainwright has presented Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov with a special award over
the busting of a ring forging EUR and USD banknotes. The case was a high-profile one for both the Bulgarian
government and Europol. Police had been on the lookout for this particular printing press - believed to be owned
an operated by a criminal ring - for over six years.

Estonian Euroweb.
From 1.1.2010 Estonia converts its currency to the euro. The country has launched a series of campaigns in
order to prepare citizens for the changeover. One of these activites is The Euroweb. This site includes
information about cash exchange, price rounding, exchange rates as well as details regarding contracts
and accounting.
