Banknotes world

  • As of 12th November 2007, the Bulgarian National Bank is issuing into circulation as legal tender a new banknote of 20 Leva denomination and issue 2007. It copies the size of the 20 Leva banknote, issue 1999, as well as its colour, graphic design and its counterfeit protection features. New banknote has modified watermark, windowed security thread, added bi-fluorescence and latent image. Previous issue will remain in circulation as legal tender.   • Bank of Papua New Guinea has introduced new 20 Kina polymer banknote which has entered circulation on 5th November. New banknote joined the family of banknotes depicting Parliament theme on the front, while backside design remain unchanged. Banknote incorporates advanced security features to help protect the currency from counterfeiting. New 20 Kina banknote will be used side by side with the existing K20 notes until they are phased out over time.          read more..

  • In October, Qatar Central Bank has placed into circulation new improved 100 and 500 Riyal banknote with date of issue 26th September 2007. Banknotes are similar to previous issues, but windowed security thread is replaced with "Optiks" thread with transparent window incorporated into banknote paper. Previous issues remain in circulation as legal tender and continue to circulate along new ones.

        

  • On 2nd October, in occasion of 60th aniversary, Banco Central de la Republica Dominicana has issued into circulation new denomination banknote of 200 Pesos Oro, featuring the three Mirabal sisters who were assassinated by the dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo in 1960. read more.. Documents world

  • From 1st November 2007, second-generation ePassports are being rolled out in Germany, with two fingerprints images being stored in the ePassport’s chip, although not in any central database. Germany is the first country in Europe to move over to the new system. The deadline for compliance and migration to next-generation ePassports is set by the European Union for 28 June 2009. read more..                                                         
  • The European Commission has requested that all member nations include additional digital biometric information and in particular fingerprint biometric data on ePassports by mid 2009. This second generation of electronic passports is a major step in biometrics. It creates a very strong link between the document and its owner as fingerprints offer a sure and proven means of personal identification. read more..                                         

The Catalogue of Currencies 

Our Catalogue of Currencies was enriched by new additions this month :

  • Venezuela - New banknote series  

Beginning from 1st January 2008 Central Bank of Venezuela will be issuing banknotes of the new currency which will be known as strong bolivar. 1 strong bolivar will be exchanged for 1,000 old Bolivares. Each note bears a different figure from Venezuelan history on the front, with rare or endangered animals pictured on the back. We bring you initial description and pictures of the banknotes.   • Lithuania -  New 20 LTL banknote

We enriched our catalogue with complete descriptions of 20 LTL  banknote issued into circulation on 11th June 2007.
